Sonicwall has it’s own software client for connecting devices. You probably received some free licenses when you bought that. Licenses are for concurrent connections. The problem with the sonicwall client is you can’t automate it. I am trying to setup a laptop so when the user clicks on the connect button of the verizon aircard software, the system connects to the internet, connects to the vpn, and starts an application with no user involvement.

The sonicwall client always prompts for a username and password. There is no way to save that information so the user doesn’t have to retype it when the aircard drops its connection. There are a few spots in town that are known dead zones. I don’t want to have to reenter a username and password for the reconnect. We found a solution to our original problem that was causing me to look into this. We have mobile users Laptops that we cannot push Group Policy changes to unless they actually open the VPN client, and enter in their credentials and so forth.

I assume after a few times of them logging in and waiting, etc.. Currently I usually have to login to their machine, switch users to a local admin account, fire up the VPN then switch back to the user’ profile. This is effective, but a pain.

I believe that if I can get it working, I can have the VPN automatically initiate when the mobile user logs into windows, or at least as soon as an internet connection is available. Did anyone on here ever suss the correct settings? Note that I was never able to get it work via the sonicwall’s netextender VPN. I do not believe that is possible.

However the alternate which did work was to setup an L2TP vpn policy on the Sonicwall. Which also works with MAC built in vpn clients as well. Thanks Steve – our VPN issues resolved themselves so it’s not urgent any more, but I’d still be interested in setting up L2TP as it could be useful in emergencies.

Brand Representative for Cradlepoint. Pertino can solve this and Greg’s challenge. It works a bit different from a traditional VPN. The connection is persistent so even if the aircard drops, Pertino will automatically reconnect once an internet connection is established. The service starts at boot up, so you can extend domain benefits natively and even pw resets. Here are the instructions to configure both the sonicwall side and examples of client side for L2TP as apposed to NetExtender.

That page pertains to the NeExtender client functions only, so you can leave that configuration unaffected by your L2TP setup. It’s the same place you go to setup site-to-site VPNs. Both configurations have been running in tandem in one particular setup that I manage for about 3 years now. This can be really convenient in that you can have a 0-client install setup that configures itself on new computers. It’s been a while since I set this up but if you get stuck or have questions, I may be able to help, just let me know.

FYI That is a SonicWall setting you can set it to allow to save username and password in the user configuration. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting. Mar 19,  · Here are the updated instructions for setting up the Sonicwall Client on a Windows 10 workstation. May 25,  · The key here is that on the sonicwall side you do not use the “SSL VPN” page of the sonicwall to make the config setup. That page pertains to the NeExtender client functions only, so you can leave that configuration unaffected by your L2TP setup. Instead, L2TP setup is done under the “VPN” page of the sonicwall. 10 On your Microsoft Windows computer, complete the following L2TP VPN Client configuration to enable secure access: • Navigate to the Windows > Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. • Open the New Connection Wizard.
